Delta Passenger Gets Bumped from First Class Because of Service Dog Policy

Recently there have been many cases of how people have felt they are being treated unfairly because of dogs in airlines. Well, it’s because passengers have to make adjustments due to service dogs.

According to these people, these adjustments are totally unnecessary and not required.

It only causes trouble to other passengers, and they cannot enjoy their flight time peacefully.

Recently there has been a case with Delta Airlines that speaks about the unfair treatment of a passenger because the airline wanted a service dog to get the seat.

Delta Passenger Downgraded from First Class for a Dog

Well, a loyal Delta passenger who has been flying with Delta for years became outraged when their first-class seat was downgraded and they had to compromise their flying experience for a service dog.

The passenger went on Reddit to share their experience and explained how they were hearing bad words about Delta Airlines but never believed them until they personally went through it.

It was only 15 minutes when they got upgraded to first class just to get downgraded, with which they weren’t happy and when they saw a dog taking up their first-class space, they couldn’t control but burst with anger.

“I asked the desk agent what happened, and she said, ‘Something changed,’” the traveler wrote. “I was disgruntled but boarded anyway—then I saw the dog in my seat. Now I’m livid.”

Policy for Service Dogs

After talking to Delta Support, they explained how it’s the legal policy of Delta Airlines that they need to prioritize passengers with service animals, in which case, if they required it, they could move or relocate any passenger.

The passengers were quite disappointed and they felt like it was an absolute joke as they had spent many years being loyal passengers to Delta Airlines just to suffer with such unnecessary troubles.

Reddit Users Supported the Passenger

The passenger was supported by many Reddit users and they sympathized with him.

They were keen on criticizing the increasing number of service animals on flights, particularly in the U.S. Many users mocked the culture of service animals and joked that these dogs must be top-tier Delta frequent flyers.

On Reddit, a Delta employee clarified that passengers with special needs and their service animals are legally entitled to bulkhead seats, even if it means reassigning other passengers.

Gary Leff’s Support

However, Gary Leff, the travel expert, did not stay hush and sided with the passenger and questioned the need to move a passenger from their first-class seat that was too last minute for a service dog.

He agreed that accommodating service animals is important but that doesn’t mean the airlines would cause trouble and dissatisfaction to flyers at the last moment.

This is not the only case of service dogs and passenger dissatisfaction; Delta has received much criticism before as well. “It’s a dog-eat-dog world,” joked one Redditor, referencing the chaotic situation.
