Missing Dog Bear Reunited with Family After Two Years Apart

You must have heard a dozen ‘lost-and-found’ stories in your life, but this one surely tops them all!

Bear, a St. Bernard mix dog who ran away from his family in 2022, has been reunited with them again two years later! He belonged to a woman named Brandy Ross, and she and her family were happily living with him.

But one day her heart shattered into pieces when Bear went missing. They looked for him everywhere, set up missing signs, and even printed ads, but to no avail. Ultimately, they had to give up.

Two years later, the family had to shift bases from Colorado to New York, owing to some military duties. Now, enter the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR).

The Heartbreak of Loss

They saw the ad from two years ago and rang the bell of the Rosses. So, what was up? Well, it turns out that they had found their long-lost canine Bear after two years!

Yes, that’s right. They had spotted a dog who looked EXACTLY like Bear at a construction site. They showed the family a picture of the dog, and they confirmed that it indeed looked like their pet. Although they couldn’t confirm without proof, it did look like him.

After receiving the green signal, they started trailing the dog. It was not an easy job to catch him since he was repeatedly moving from one place to another. However, they remained on his trail, setting up feeding stations and cameras all around.

Finally, one day he walked into a ‘trap’. Upon receiving the news of the capture, the family saw him and said that yes, that was indeed Bear! He looked exactly the same, with a few pounds missing.

The HSPPR people took him to the vet where he was pronounced healthy. After that, it was time for a grooming session where he was made to lose all the dirt and grime that he had been exposed to over the years.

Search for Bear

“Bear got loose from a pet sitter in April 2022. His family reported him missing and posted in Facebook groups, but they never found him. The saddest part is that they had to leave Colorado Springs without their beloved Bear as the military moved them to New York. He’s going home, and these volunteers are taking care of everything! They already took him to get a much-needed groom,” read a Facebook post by the HSPPR society.

Once everything was done, it was time for a happy reunion at last! It was a very emotional one, and Brandy said that she ‘started bawling her eyes out’ when she saw him again.

“I was literally bawling my eyes out and even now I’m in shock that this is him. It’s so crazy that he survived for two years in the Colorado weather,” she said in an interview to WKBT.

She also posted a picture of the reunion, with the caption reading, ‘I’m home, mom! I’m so excited!’

So heartwarming, we’re in tears right now!
